Gold Rush Era Mercury Still A Problem
A recent paper published in PNAS explores the long term implications of mercury toxicity from gold mining in California during the 1800's. The research presents a new way of examining the total toxic release of heavy metals from mining and suggests new ways that science should be examining the toxic effects of mining on ecosystems in the future.
